Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani is widely regarded as the greatest commentator on Sahih al-Bukhari. Fath al-Bari combines linguistic precision, narrator analysis, and jurisprudence. He also wrote influential works in hadith terminology and biography.
Traditional scholarship says that after Fath al-Bari, comprehensive commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari reached a summit few could rival. He represents mainstream Sunni hadith science at its height.
